Cox Plate
RUNNING FOR 100 YEARS, 1922 - 2022
We hope everyone had a fantastic time at the Caulfield Cup (for those that actually went to the races) and came home with some well-deserved winnings too! If you've read our last blog on Caulfield Cup, which we hope you have, you're on your way to being a horse racing pro.
The Cox Plate is the next big event of the season. Short for the W.S. Cox Plate (William Samuel), This race was first run 100 years ago, starting out on Saturday, 28 October 1922! With the centenary race coming up - this is sure to be a huge event for everyone!
From humble beginnings of a purse of £1,000, the current purse for this race is $5,000,000! Notable winners of this race are
Winx (2015 - 2018)
Kingston Town (1980 - 1982)
Phar Lap (1930 - 1931)
With last years winner State of Rest retired, it gives a great opportunity to the experienced Anamoe who came runner up last year to push on for the win this year. Last year was a thrilling race with a close finish with State of Rest surviving a protest from Anamoe to win the 2021 Cox Plate.
The spirit of the day is completed by the fantastic outfits that are on show. The Cox is a little less traditional or formal than the Caulfield Cup. A tie isn't required for this day. We think you should still consider it - it'll make you look even more stylish with the shirts we've picked out!
So, while you're allowed to let your hair down a bit - if you'd like, and wear a beautiful shirt that expresses who you are. Here are some of our picks for what we think could really be a showstopper for the day! But you've got to get in quick - sizes won't last!
Now sadly, we don't do suits - but we think you should go out and try something a bit different for this race. We all know how strong Navy can be, but why not try a light Linen suit or textured sports Jacket? Really let yourself stand out!
Take this advice and go shine gents! The Cox Plate will be an incredible day with some really spectacular horses on show!
Have fun and Good Luck!
